International
festival of contemporary art The BODY NAVIGATION International festival of contemporary
art “The Body Navigation” is a platform for artistic dialogue of
European and Russian authors, working at the intersection of different
kinds and genres of art: contemporary dance and performance, visual
art, music and multimedia. Program of the festival includes projects
and experimental works in the fields of media art, performance, electronic
and ethnic music. The festival challenges artists and viewers to seek
polemic dialogue with surrounding reality using human body and digital
technologies as a medium. Distinctive features of the festival
are OPENNESS, RELEVANCE and DEMOCRACY. Artistic project perceive a human being
in relation to our surroundings and sweepingly developing new technologies.
The projects refer to social, political and ecological problems, which
directly affect Human Body (Body=Spirit=Mind). Thus, one of major festival
topics is “Body is a medium of art”. The festival is designed not only for
narrow range of specialists in the field of contemporary art, but to
all people of St.-Petersburg. This is a liberal non-commercial art-action,
in the framework of which exhibitions, concerts, performances, lectures
and master-classes are presented. “The Body Navigation” festival has
the reputation of an independent and actual European festival, presenting
the works of both young and reputed authors in the field of contemporary
art. The festival is among most interesting in its aspect of matching
contemporary visual and multimedia types of art alongside with performing
arts such as dance performance and audiovisual performance. Previous festivals held in spaces of “Vodokanal”, Elagin Island, Dostoevsky memorial museum, Studio theater SpbGATI, Jakobson Academic Ballet Theater, art-residence of State Center of Contemporary Art Saint-Petersburg (NCCA), Kronstadt, Loft Project “ETAZHI”, have demonstrated relevance of chosen view upon problem of contemporary art development. More than 500 artists, performers, dancers and musicians from Europe, Northern and Baltic Countries, USA, New Zealand Japan and Russia participated in the festival. The organizers of the festival
are independent curators, dancers, choreographers, artists and musicians
of St.-Petersburg, who joined in 2005 into a Non-commercial partnership
"ART NAVIGATION".
